P e r s o n a l i t y
Hayate is usually calm and composed, often smiles, and treats everyone very gently and politely, and for that he may seem nice. But it's all a facade, behind his smiles he hides quite a dark side to him. He will be nice as long as he's treated nicely, but when provoked he will retaliate at full-power. He won't tolerate rudeness, and is quite obsessed about his discipline, sometimes even imposing it onto others.

He underestimates people, and usually keeps his eyes closed, because he has no interest on seeing things around him and also as part of his self-imposed discipline. He likes to test himself, and won't hesitate before danger. He can be authoritarian and violent without any signs of remorse or guilt, but still follows a rigid moral code.

H i s t o r y
Hayate comes from a family of politicians descending from Shinto priests who served as consultants for the government. Because they were often right in their predictions, there were always rumors around about a so-called hereditary clairvoyance ability in the Kagurasaki family.

Hayate was an only child in a big house, his father was always absent and his mother often isolated herself in a room in occasional shady reunions with other occultist friends. It was a known fact by the two servants though that Rin, Hayate's mother, had been a drug addict since before he was even born.

Fearing his son could have been feeling lonely and neglected by his mother, his father who also couldn't be home very often, decided to gift Hayate with a puppy when he was 10 years old. What was their surprise then, when after calling for him many times, one of the maids found him in the backyard with some blood on his face and the mutilated corpse of the poor puppy lying on the ground right before him. No one knew what happened exactly, but the maid insisted she had seen a smile on the wicked boy's face and so she quit her job the same week.

Hayate's father became scared of his own son, and now feared he'd grow to become a criminal and lay down the family name to shame. And so he hired a peculiar tutor a colleague told him about, specialized in dealing with problematic children.

Masahiro Zeiburo, the hired tutor, was an older man past his 30's. He was a very serious and austere man, who sometimes very harshly made sure to discipline Hayate. He got Hayate into practicing kendo, as he came from a prestigious dojo himself. After an incident between the two of them, Masahiro taught him to focus all disturbing thoughts into the swing of his sword, and told him to train with his eyes closed to strenghten his mind and heart. Later Hayate adopted this training into everything else he did, as he realized keeping his eyes closed actually made him a lot calmer.

Kazuki Mizuyama - The headmaster caught his interest since the first day, Hayate guards him. He apparently looks up to him, and wouldn't stand still if anyone tried to disrespect him.
